Maps & directions

All Berkeley Opera performances take place at Julia Morgan Theatre, 2640 College Avenue, Berkeley.

  • The Julia Morgan Theatre is at 2640 College Avenue, at the corner of College and Derby. Parking is usually not too hard to find if you look in the residential areas just off College, near the theater.
  • From the Eastshore freeway Take the Ashby Avenue offramp. Go east about three miles and make a left turn onto College Avenue. Go a little less than half a mile north on College. The theater will be on your left.
  • By public transportation Take BART to the Rockridge station (on the Concord/Martinez line) Then board the 51 or 51M bus going north on College Avenue. Take it about a mile and get off at Derby Street. The stop is in front of a block of four stores in an otherwise residential neighboorhood, and when it's dark it's easy to spot the lit windows coming up. The theater will be across the street, on your left. Alternatively, take BART to the Berkeley station (on the Richmond line). Then board the 51 or 51A bus south (the bus stop is on Shattuck Avenue, on the same block as BART's round entrance building). Take it about a mile. About a half mile after it turns onto College Avenue, get off in front of the theater (you can see the stores on your left), which will be on your right. The 51 bus will still be running every 20 minutes when the theater lets out. It's a well-traveled route and has so far escaped cuts in service. Both stations have cab stands close by if you don't want to wait for the bus. At the Rockridge station, the cabs line up on College Avenue beneath the freeway underpass. At the Berkeley station, they're on Shattuck Avenue near the round entrance building and the bus stop mentioned above. Both stations are about a mile from the theater. If you want to call for a cab after the opera, there's a pay telephone outside in front of the theater (to the left of the entrance, past the box office and down the little stairs, partially hidden by the bushes).
